Instant Karma
John Lennon
Instant Karma's gonna get you
Gonna knock you right on the head
You better get yourself together
Pretty soon you're gonna be dead
What in the world you thinking of
Laughing in the face of love
What on earth you tryin' to do
It's up to you, yeah you

Instant Karma's gonna get you
Gonna look you right in the face
Better get yourself together darlin'
Join the human race
How in the world you gonna see
Laughin' at fools like me
Who in the hell d'you think you are
A super star
Well, right you are

Well we all shine on
Like the moon and the stars and the sun
Well we all shine on
Ev'ryone come on

Instant Karma's gonna get you
Gonna knock you off your feet
Better recognize your brothers
Ev'ryone you meet
Why in the world are we here
Surely not to live in pain and fear
Why on earth are you there
When you're ev'rywhere
Come and get your share

Well we all shine on
Like the moon and the stars and the sun
Yeah we all shine on
Come on and on and on on on
Yeah yeah, alright, uh huh, ah

Well we all shine on
Like the moon and the stars and the sun
Yeah we all shine on
On and on and on on and on

Well we all shine on
Like the moon and the stars and the sun
Well we all shine on
Like the moon and the stars and the sun
Well we all shine on
Like the moon and the stars and the sun
Yeah we all shine on
Like the moon and the stars and the sun

As I made clear in the thread on Christianity, I too find it depressing to fight. But some statements to call for an answer. If someone says "I really have nothing against bisexuals as such, but you have to admit that their behaviour is really appalling, disgusting and perverted", clearly that's not something one can just let pass. The old legal maxim, "silence gives consent", applies here -- sometimes it's impossible to remain silent without becoming a collaborator in wrongdoing.

That said, I agree that it's time to move on....

War lyrics (War! huh What is it good for?)
These lyrics has a very contemporary feeling to them, don't you think?

War! huh-yeah
What is it good for?
Absolutely nothing
Uh-huh

War! huh-yeah
What is it good for?
Absolutely nothing
Say it again y'all

War! huh good God
What is it good for?
Absolutely nothing
Listen to me?

Ohhh? War! I despise
Because it means destruction?
Of innocent lives

War means tears
to thousands of mothers eyes
When their sons go to fight
and lose their lives

I said - War! Huh Good God y'all
What is it good for?
Absolutely nothing
Say it again

War! Whoa, Lord ...
What is it good for
Absolutely nothing
Listen to me?

War! It ain't nothing but a heartbreaker
War! Friend only to the undertaker
War! It's an enemy to all mankind
The thought of war blows my mind

War has caused unrest in the younger generation
Induction then destruction-
Who wants to die?

Ohhh? War Good God y'all
What is it good for?
Absolutely nothing
Say it, Say it, Say it

War! Uh-huh Yeah - Huh!
What is it good for?
Absolutely nothing
Listen to me?

War! It ain't nothing but a heartbreaker
War! It's got one friend, that's the undertaker
War has shattered many a young mans dreams
Made him disabled bitter and mean
Life is much to precious to spend fighting wars these days
War can't give life, it can only take it away

War! Huh Good God y'all
What is it good for?
Absolutely nothing
Say it again

War! Whoa, Lord ...
What is it good for
Absolutely nothing
Listen to me?

War! It ain't nothing but a heartbreaker
War! Friend only to the undertaker
Peace Love and Understanding;
tell me, is there no place for them today?
They say we must fight to keep our freedom
But Lord knows there's got to be a better way

War! Huh Good God y'all
What is it good for?
You tell me
Say it, Say it, Say it

War! Huh Good God y'all
What is it good for?
Stand up and shout it.
Nothing!

That song brings back memories of when I was young and not sure if I could avoid going to war. Maybe, like others I knew that were killed, I might die too.
Now we have Iraq. So, here we go again. More young men and women, our most valuable resource, death and serious injury rather than love/babies and contribution to the economy.
Sometimes, war is necessary, but it seems more often than not, that it can be avoided and should be a VERY last option. Maybe, I am wrong about using military force very sparingly, but, I hope not.

Surely you're right. Regarding the U.S. in particular, Secretary of State John Quincy Adams made a magnificent speech in the House of Representatives on July 4, 1821, warning against entanglement in foreign wars. The speech, incidentally, is a favorite both of Gore Vidal's on the political left, and of Pat Buchanan's on the right. Excerpts:

"...what has America done for the benefit of mankind?...She has, in the lapse of nearly half a century, without a single exception, respected the independence of other nations while asserting and maintaining her own.

She has abstained from interference in the concerns of others, even when conflict has been for principles to which she clings...she goes not abroad, in search of monsters to destroy. She is the well-wisher to the freedom and independence of all. She is the champion and vindicator only of her own.

She well knows that by once enlisting under other banners than her own, were they even the banners of foreign independence, she would involve herself beyond the power of extrication, in all the wars of interest and intrigue, of individual avarice, envy, and ambition, which assume the colors and usurp the standard of freedom.

The fundamental maxims of her policy would insensibly change from liberty to force....

She might become the dictatress of the world. She would be no longer the ruler of her own spirit.... "

the incessant need to finalize a point

a moot one at that...

heres one for ya:

We must never take these words too seriously
Words are very important but then if we take them too seriously
We destroy every thing...

I'm not one of those joiners
I'm not down with the club
There's no place I'm going to
You see, it's the hole I dug

I just leave it alone
I just leave it alone
I just leave it alone

I'm not down with this one
Their motives are much too severe
And that one, they're much too serious
I don't plan to make this a career

I just leave it alone
I just leave it alone
I just leave it alone

We're always talking about peace
But it's pieces that we find
What's with all this tension?
What is on your mind?

Why are we always talking about peace?
But it's pieces that we find
Tell me what's with all this tension
Tell me what is on your mind

I wouldn't get into that one
Naw, don't go for all their hype
And you know I'll never be like that one
Come on, I'm just not the type

Well I gotta leave it alone
Just gotta leave it alone
Gonna just leave it alone
Just gotta leave it alone
No, no, no

Leave it alone
Leave it alone
Leave it alone
