Attempts by conservative legislators and the State of Texas' conservative AG to ban sex toys falls by the wayside:
http://www.chron.com/disp/story.mpl/ap/tx/5919987.html
Now--conservatives always like to talk about all the ways the evil liberals try to enforce social control--but this is an example of the stupid shit ways that conservatives try to engage in social control---thank God the effort failed.
For the life of me--I don't know why anyone would think that sex toys are a bad thing---you may not like that people use them--but they cause no harm at all--and for a politician to waste their time trying to ban them---time that is the taxpayers time--- to try to stop the sale of sex toys is just plain assed stupid!!!
There are many real issues much more pressing for a state's Attorney General to be concerned with other than banning sex toys--as someone noted in one of the posts at the site the article is posted on.
If I lived in Texas--I think I would start an effort to get that AG booted--he must have way too much time on his hands!!

they will have to pry my buttplug from my cold dead hands and/or butt.
If toys are outlawed, only outlaws will have toys?

That is because we are all supposed to be good little boys and girls...not think impure thoughts and only use sex as a way to procreate. Did I mention you are only supposed to bang the opposite sex missionary style? After all, it is their duty to enforce their holy morals on everyone else!
Cool to hear this horrid legislation had dropped by the wayside. I wish more restrictions of this nature would do so.

Democans and Republicrats are the same thing. Heinlein said that there are only two political groups in the world, those that want to control others and those that have no such desire. Both parties fall into the former group, they just have different things about our lives they want to control.

Well, here in Alabama (where sex toys were outlawed almost 20 years ago), it's easier to cheat on a spouse than buy a toy, and you wonder why spouse abuse is so prevalent... THANK GOD the toys are still available in the neighboring states. A local Birmingham entrepreneur was fighting to get the laws overturned, and she took it to the Alabama state supreme court, which upheld the law. It's not that there aren't a lot of folks who own toys, it's that the laws (and the extremist conservative terrorists who enforce them) have become very skilled at manipulating our fear to control us. I for one, can not come out for fear of the impact on my parents - I struggle even today at the repercussions of coming out within my family.
It's ok, I'll move far away soon. Texans, don't let them take away your freedom from fear; this is miserable. Or rather - it's a struggle to daily enjoy peace of mind and find gratitude in the midst of persecution.

Only in the state that Bush-boy hails from would they waste taxpayer money on something so incredibly idiotic as to ban sex toys.
See what happens when an idiot gets elected? It sets a bad precedent for the future.

Thanks for the heads up. I left a particularly large butt plug for the AG in the comments section regarding the AG.

Actually it did happen in 1998 the state of Alabama, and is still in place. You now need to sign a medical waiver in Alabama if you want to buy a sex toy. Their current AG (Troy King) has said that he would like to make the law even stricter. He has also repeatedly stated his desire to persecute people of alternative sexuality.
There is a interesting scandal brewing there, as the very right-wing christian Mr. King has a history of promoting attractive male aides to positions they are not qualified for in his office. Recently a rumour spread through the political circles in the state capitol that King had been kicked out of his house by his wife after being found in bed with a young man. Nothing has been confirmed, but King also refuses to deny it.
Fun twist, he was McCain's Alabama state campaign coordinator, but has now been completely scrubbed from McCain's website and the campaign refuses to answer questions as to why.

but Heinlein also said...
"If you are part of a society that votes, then do so. There may be no candidates and no measures you want to vote for . . but there are certain to be ones you want to vote against. "
As I think the examples in this thread clearly show, there may not be a great party in the US to vote for, but there is definitely one to vote against.

See?
They learned from Bush's example while he was Governor of Texas. It just shows that politicians keep lowering their own bar for common sense.
No wonder they haven't got any. :soapbox:
